7 Thing To Avoid When You Trying To Lose Weight
7 Thing To Avoid When You Trying To Lose Weight |
There is a right and wrong way to lose weight, and the long-term results often show who lost weight correctly and who didn’t.
If you try to shed the pounds too quickly or take radical action, you can end up weighing more than you did before as soon as you become set in your old ways once more, or even gravely ill from the experience.
If you are set on dropping a few dress sizes – either for your health or self-image, then here are seven things you should never do, with emphasis on slides five and six in particular!
Starve Yourself
If you’re trying to lose weight, the worst thing you can do is think that skipping meals and essentially starving your body is the way to do it. While it might help to make you lose a few pounds in the beginning, you will put all of it back on as soon as you begin eating.
Starving yourself and skipping meals is not sustainable and all you’ll feel is hungry. Therefore, you’re more likely to fall off the bandwagon and reach for that cake!
Skip Breakfast
Over 31 million Americans are not eating breakfast, which is the most important meal of the day. Your body has just gone hours without food, and that first meal in the morning is the one that will set you up for the day, while also kickstarting your metabolism in the process.
If you’re not yet convinced that you should be eating breakfast, then will the fact that those who skip breakfast weigh more will? Even a piece of toast or a bowl of cereal is enough to get you started.
Cleanse or Detox
Cleanses and detox diets are growing more popular by the day, but they are not an effective weight-loss method, nor are they necessary for your body. Did you know your body already knows how to detoxify itself and remove toxins without the help of another product?
All you’ll get from such a diet is dehydrated, hungry, and unwell, with potentially serious complications. There is also no evidence to say they are beneficial for your heart health, blood pressure, or cholesterol.
Sleep Less
One of the significant things you shouldn’t do when you’re trying to lose weight is sleeping less. There is a strong connection between sleeping less and weighing more, and those who tend to stay out of bed longer eat more calories and have a larger appetite.
What’s more, when you don’t sleep enough, your stress hormone known as cortisol increases. Cortisol is associated with weight gain. Make sure you get seven or eight hours of uninterrupted sleep every night.
Exercise Too Much
As most experts will tell you, a healthy diet and exercise is the winning recipe for weight loss. However, you can have too much of a good thing. If you exercise too much, you are causing your body harm rather than any good.
Aim for half an hour of cardio exercise five days a week, or vigorous cardio three times per week with a mixture of strength training, as recommended by the American Heart Association.
Use Drugs
Think that weight loss pill is going to make you feel and look better? Then think again. Drugs may make you skinny, but they can also make you die.
Many people are in search of a quick fix, but with minimal FDA regulations in the realm of diet and weight loss pills, you are putting harmful chemicals into your body that haven’t been through rigorous or safe testing.
Instead, lose weight with exercise and healthy eating, and put those bad pill bottles away!
Not Reading Labels
If you are trying to get a handle on your weight, then you won’t be able to if you’re not careful with what you eat. Not enough people are reading nutritional labels, which can make it hard to know what you’re putting into your body.
Even if labeling on the front of the packet says something is “reduced fat,” read the label on the back. You’ll probably find that if something has reduced fat, it has an increase in something else unhealthy.
Determination
Losing weight is a challenge, but not everyone is willing to put in the effort and instead try to cut corners. Did you know most of those “corners” are dangerous?
Losing weight isn’t supposed to be easy, but if you achieve it through hard work, physical activity, and a healthy diet, then you are more likely to lose weight and keep it off.
Step away from the diet pills and detox supplements and arm yourself with a new healthy eating plan.
